OFFICE 4.0

  • YEAR: 2018

Data say that on average, in a lifetime, we spend 99,117 hours working, sometimes more than the time we spend inside our home. Today, however, this is no longer completely true. Thanks to digitalization, the world of work has undergone profound changes in the last few years, that have transformed not only the way the business is carried out, but also its spaces.

The new technological tools allow, for example, to work from home, as well as in public places in the city, such as restaurants, lounges, bars, squares, parks. As a result, the quality of work and traditional offices are meeting a new era, that sees the persons increasingly independent in the management of their time and their 'space' and the work station a place increasingly dematerialized, that gives way to environments with other values, far from pure functionality.

What will the offices of the future be like then? Far from having that rigorous and authoritarian aspect that characterized the office space of the past, contemporary ones are to design, to the search for detail, more welcoming and informal open spaces.

We borrow a statement by Cristiana Cutrona, founder of the Revalue studio in Milan, with extensive experience in the office and curator of the A Joyful Sense at Work exhibition, presented in the Workplace 3.0 section of the Salone del Mobile 2017. Cutrona states about workplaces «They will above all be the place of relationships. Faced with a world subject to unpredictable changes and where technology predominates, it is essential to bring attention on man. ».

A Joyful Sense at Work has staged a new concept through a square virtually divided into three "areas" of needs: the area of Concentration, the area of Sharing, the area of Creativity, all converging in a large central square, a Porous Fabric, filter space, an intermediate area between public and private, a place of opportunity and exchange.

With a return of the attention on the person and his well-being, rather than on performance, the planning of the interior design of the offices, today sets new objectives, both in the definition of the layout of the spaces and in the choice of furnishings. The new design trends include areas for socializing and sharing and others for insulation, relaxation areas and spaces for playing, areas that stimulate imagination and invention.

The obsolete standard open space leaves room for an open office intended as a flexible, changing, multitasking, customizable and above all comfortable space.

In this direction, the Baxter designer furnishings, characterized by the use of materials with tactile textures such as leather, combined with refined finishes such as metals and stones, and masterly worked to create comfortable and welcoming furniture, make the spaces warm, and sought-after meeting areas and relaxation areas.

The extreme attention to detail that characterizes the production makes the environments empathic, perfect photographic sets for that group of new smart workers whose world is destined to be shared on social media.
